| Early
in the 19th Century, the 7th Duchess of Bedford is said to have given birth to
Afternoon Tea when she decided to take tea with bread and butter in order to stave
off hunger pangs between lunch and a very late dinner.
As she invited a few friends to join her each day, her simple afternoon snack
grew to include tiny sandwiches, pastries and scones. Before long, Afternoon Tea
with the Duchess developed into a ritual for society's elite.
Today, Afternoon Tea is still a graceful event that brings people together for
a brief hour of pleasure and refreshment during a hectic day. Join
your friends at the Maple House as we continue to celebrate this enjoyable English
tradition. |
